Stainless steel 1.4034 (also known as AISI 420C) is a martensitic stainless steel with a high chromium content, typically between 12–14%. This steel offers high hardness, strength, and wear resistance after heat treatment, making it a popular material for tools and components subjected to heavy mechanical loads. Its corrosion resistance is higher than that of standard carbon steels but lower than that of austenitic stainless steels.
The production of this steel involves melting and alloying, where chromium is added to enhance corrosion resistance.
