Stainless steel 1.4571 (also known as AISI 316Ti) is an austenitic stainless steel with an addition of titanium, which enhances resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly at elevated temperatures. This alloy contains approximately 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, providing excellent corrosion resistance, even in aggressive chemical environments such as acids or salts.
The production of steel 1.4571 involves melting and alloying with elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and titanium. After casting, the steel undergoes heat treatment and rolling to achieve optimal mechanical properties and a uniform structure. The addition of titanium stabilises the steel and prevents the formation of carbide precipitates at grain boundaries, enhancing its resistance to corrosion after welding.
Stainless steel 1.4571 is commonly used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, in the manufacture of food processing equipment, piping, heat exchangers, and components in the marine industry. Its high resistance to corrosion and oxidation makes it an ideal choice for applications in demanding and aggressive environments.
